The President's Letter                                    By:  Wyatt Gersley

Hope everyone had a fantastic time celebrating the new year.  I had a great holiday.  I did nothing but sleep, see some friends, go to the movies and enjoy the time with family and the time off from homework.  O, and did some Flocking!!!  What did you do?

Our Holiday party was awesome!!  Thank you to the holiday committee for doing such a great job.  I had lots of fun as you can see in some of the pictures.  And so did others.  It was good food, deserts, hot chocolate, games and white elephant gift exchange.  Lots of laughs with good old and new friends.

So far, the Flamingo Flocking Fundraiser for our club is a success!!  The flocking committee has been flocking their tails off since November and more keep coming in.  I have done quite a few of the flocking's and it's been fun.  People really like it and thank us for it.  We have lots more to do.  If you want to be part of this great committee and help flock some people just let me or Sara know, and you can be added to the fun!  There are more flamingos to flock!!

As the new year starts there will be lots of things coming up and starting.  Most animal projects are already going, and the market projects will be starting in a couple months.  I know that the market swine and goat will be coming up in April.  Make sure to check in with your leader if you are interested in a market project.

February brings Presentation Day and Cloverdale Citrus Fair.

If you have never been to or done a presentation this is a good way to show case your project or even something you enjoy doing.  It’s also a great skill to learn for school and college.  Even if you do not do a presentation, you can go and listen to others and even learn some neat things.

Cloverdale Citrus Fair Theme is “Under the Big Top” February 18th - 21st, 2022.  This is our 1st fair that starts our year rolling. There is lots of exhibits that show case the citrus agriculture.  Through cakes and floral designs and more.  However, you can think to show off citrus.  You can also showcase your 4-H project or even enter something you like doing and you are proud of.  There are many categories you can enter in.  This is also a small animal fair.  So, poultry, rabbit, cavy, pygmy goat and dogs can be shown here.

This fair is a good starter for brushing up on your knowledge and showmanship skills if it has been a while since your last show.  Or if it's your first time showing it's really a good way to just get your feet wet since it's not a big fair.  There's always some interesting food choice to try and the carnival is there for some fun.  I really encourage you to check it out even if it's just for fun.  Make sure to check with your project leader for entry cut off dates.  They are open now but may close at the end of January.

There is more to come.  So, see you at our next club meeting January 12, 2022, 7pm at the YAL Center.

Cloverdale Citrus Fair

By Wyatt Gersley

So, Cloverdale Citrus Fair was a great day as usual.  I was only there for the rabbit and cavy show on February 17, 2019.  The day had already started with the rabbit show that morning.  The cavy show did not start until 11 am because there are a lot less cavies entered than rabbits.  It was a nice day out. People were everywhere outside and, in the barn, exhibiting their animals and listening to the judges’ comments about the animal’s. I exhibited my American White cavy and he took Best of Variety in the show.  As for my showmanship this is my first year as a senior.  I didn’t do too bad.  I took 5th in my class and there was a lot of really good showman. All and all the Cloverdale Citrus Fair was a nice day and I hope more people can attend it next year.

County Presentation Day

By:  Wyatt Gersley

It was a rainy day at the YAL center in Rohnert Park, but people did not let that stop them from coming to presentation day.  It was held on February 2nd, 2019 at 9am.  There were lots of different presentations going on that day.

I did an educational display called, “Origins of ADGA Recognized Breeds.”  This is my first year in dairy goats so it is helping me learn about the breeds and about the kind of goat I will be getting.  I got a blue on my presentation, so I need to obviously learn more.  It really was a great day.

January Jamboree

By Wyatt Gersley

On January 20, 2019 I attended the January Jamboree and it was held at the Cloverdale Fair Grounds.  This is a double youth and double open rabbit and cavy show.  I exhibited my White American cavy in the show, and it received Best in Show in show A.  Michael Sittenauer exhibited his rabbit and received Best in Show.  Some of our project members were even able to buy nice show animals from some of the breeders that had come.

Our club also was able to host the food booth fundraiser for the club and our rabbit and cavy group ran a raffle fundraiser for the, “Rabbits and Cavies and Youth, Oh My!” group.  The food booth did such a great job.  The food was awesome with pulled pork and pulled chicken sandwiches and salad.  There was lots of great tasting home baked goods also.  The raffle had a lot of fun things donated and almost everything was raffled off.  Over all the two booths did pretty well.
